I Need You by Birdy Fogh is a book of poems describing a young mans journey mentally, spiritually and relationship-wise.

He tells his side of various stories, and conveys the raw emotion of each encounter. The poems refer to one another throughout the book, creating a clear understanding of the events and their significance to the author. This is a book of expression. An outlet for the author to release certain demons that he constantly had to face. The first poem The Genesis touches on Birdys grief from losing his dad, and his decision to be a better person.

Birdy was a hardcore being who could deal with life on the streets and evil people. The introduction of Birdy, the authors alter ego, set the tone for the rest of the book. All the anger, loneliness, and pain really began at this point, evident in the remaining chapters. Days become nights and nights stay nights. (p. 11) This line evoked a darkness that comes when people truly dont know where to turn. Birdy was in a new location, completely alone. He was in a new country, America. He mentions the language barrier and how difficult it was to adjust.

All of these changes on top of the loss of a parent can only lead one to become numb. Birdy discusses his interactions with women, which were either angry or selfless. One girl, he had an immediate connection to because he felt she was just as shy and lonely as him. They had good times that eventually took a turn for the worst. At this point, Birdy became ruthless and angry because any altercation that he didnt feel supported in forced him to snap.

He made it clear that if any negative emotion were triggered there would be nothing but a negative result. As the poems evolve, Birdy slowly becomes more and more positive. He finally speaks highly of a woman, Jackie, he describes his philosophy of life, and even sounds at peace by the last poem. After being so stubborn for so long, Birdy finally realizes that everyone needs someone. People need people to survive.-Ashley-Chanell Chapman
